EurAqua Symposium:

“Impact of Climate Change on Water Resources European approaches in scientific policy advice and research efforts"

This symposium scheduled on 9 - 10th November 2010 in Koblenz (Germany) will compile the state of the art and knowledge by the EurAqua-Partners regarding scientific policy advice and research on climate change and impacts. It will focus on inland waters with four themes:

  • Theme 1:      Strategies for scientific policy advice facing impacts on climate change
  • Theme 2:      Research efforts on climate projections and scenarios for water balances and run-off regimes
  • Theme 3:      Research efforts on climate projections and scenarios for water quality
  • Theme 4:      Research efforts on climate projections and scenarios for rivers ecology

Call for presentations:
For each Theme of the symposium four to five contributions are scheduled, introduced by a presentation of the BfG. Please sent an one page abstract until 16th April 12am (1st call) to huesing@bafg.de.

The German/BfG contribution to each theme of the Symposium is based on the departmental research programme KLIWAS (Impacts of Climate Change on Waterways and Navigation). It is embedded in the national strategy on adaptation to climate change. KLIWAS is aimed at estimating changes in run-off and water levels due to climate change for inland waterways, and at estimating tidal changes due to climate change for the coastal regions and the Sea. Changes in water quality and ecology will be assessed, economical aspects are included. The main objective of KLIWAS is to develop adaptation options for potential changing conditions for navigation but also other ecosystem services.

The symposium will give an overview on strategies, existing research projects and results. It will reveal knowledge gaps and fields of research for mutual co-operation and proposals to the EC.
